Interventional Radiology

Interventional Radiology is a subspecialty of radiology in which minimally invasive procedures are performed using image guidance. Some of these procedures are done for diagnostic purposes, while others are done for treatment purposes. Interventional Radiology is performed at Grossman Imaging Centers by our Board Certified Radiologists
The basic concept behind interventional radiology is to diagnose or treat pathology with the most minimally invasive technique possible. Interventional Radiology is done using the imaging technology of CT, Ultrasound or Fluoroscopy for guidance during the procedure. Interventional procedures are performed with the use of catheters ( small, narrow tubes), needle or other small instruments that are guided through the blood vessels or spine to diagnose and/or treat pain or disease. Because Interventional Radiology offers an alternative to surgical treatment, it is often the procedure of choice for the diagnosis and treatment of many diseases or conditions and generally means less pain, risk and recovery time for patients.
